Why Choose Ocean Welding for
E307-16?
Are you looking for a supplier of E307-16 stainless steel welding electrodes that offer stable performance and excellent crack resistance? Ocean Welding (the export brand of Hangzhou Lin'an Ocean Welding Materials Co., Ltd., established in 1995) manufactures E307-16 electrodes-part of its stainless steel SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) series and corresponding to the GB/T 983 standard designation A172-that comply with AWS A5.4 standards. The E307-16 is an 18Cr-8Ni, high-manganese (3.5%–5.5% Mn content) austenitic stainless steel electrode featuring a titania-calcium (rutile-calcium) type coating; it is specifically designed for joining dissimilar metals, repairing Hadfield (ZGMn13) manganese steel, welding armor plate, and applying buffer layers prior to hardfacing. The deposited metal exhibits a tensile strength of ≥ 590 MPa and an elongation of ≥ 25%, along with excellent resistance to hot cracking.

Products Description
Ocean Welding E307-16 is an austenitic stainless steel welding electrode conforming to AWS A5.4 / A5.4M standards. It uses a titanium-calcium type coating and is suitable for AC/DC (AC/DC+) bipolar power supply and all-position welding. The weld metal is an austenitic weld metal with a nominal composition of 18Cr-8Ni-4Mn, and the δ-ferrite content is controlled within the range of 0–4 FN. This chemical composition endows E307-16 with three key characteristics that set it apart from other products in its class, characteristics that competing welding electrodes such as E308, E309, or E316 cannot simultaneously possess:
- High manganese content provides excellent resistance to hot cracking, making it an ideal choice for high-constraint applications and dissimilar metal joining;
- The weld metal is virtually non-magnetic, making it suitable for non-magnetic components and shielding applications;
- It is compatible with unknown steels, making it the industry's preferred electrode when the base metal composition is unknown.
E307-16 is manufactured by Ocean Welding in compliance with AWS A5.4 E307-16 and GB/T 983 A172 standards, and every batch is accompanied by a Mill Test Certificate.

Recommended Welding Procedure
| Step | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Joint prep | Remove rust, oil, mill scale and moisture within 25 mm; grind out surface cracks on Hadfield / armor plate |
| Re-drying | Standard: 150 °C × 1 h before use. If exposed to humid air: 150 – 180 °C × 40 – 60 min. Hold in a 100 °C portable oven at the welding station |
| Polarity | AC or DC+ (electrode positive) - DC+ gives smoother arc, lower spatter |
| Preheat | 304/321 stainless base metal: no preheat. Hadfield steel: no preheat, short arc, small bead. Thick / high-restraint sections (≥ 25 mm): 60 – 120 °C. Armor / hardened tool steel: 100 – 150 °C |
| Interpass temperature | ≤ 150 °C for Hadfield to avoid embrittlement; ≤ 180 °C for other base metals |
| Technique | Short-arc, stringer bead or narrow weave (≤ 2 × Ø). Peen each pass on Hadfield to release stress |
| Post-weld | No PWHT required. On Hadfield major repairs, apply water-quench solution treatment at 1050 – 1100 °C if base metal properties must be restored |
| Storage | Keep sealed carton in dry warehouse (RH < 60%). Re-dry per above if opened for > 8 h |
Grade Should I Choose?
E307-16 vs other E307 coating variants
| Grade | Coating | Polarity | Position | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
