I. Usage Specifications: Ensuring Welding Quality and Safety

1. Pre-Welding Preparation

Electrode Drying: New electrodes with intact packaging and stored in a dry environment can be used directly. For electrodes stored for more than 3 months or slightly dampened (no obvious whitening on the coating), dry them at 70-150℃ for 1-2 hours. After drying, immediately place them in an 80-100℃ insulation cylinder for on-demand use. Severely dampened electrodes (with whitened coating, caking, or powder falling off when pinched) must be scrapped and are prohibited from use.

Workpiece Cleaning: Before welding, thoroughly remove rust, oil, moisture, and paint from the groove and the 20mm area on both sides of the groove. Use an angle grinder or wire brush for grinding, or wipe with acetone. Welding can only start after the workpiece is completely dry.

Equipment Selection: Priority should be given to DC power sources with DC reverse polarity (workpiece connected to negative pole, electrode connected to positive pole) to ensure stable arc and sufficient penetration. Some models are compatible with AC power sources, but please confirm with the electrode manufacturer's instructions.

2. Welding Parameters and Operation

Current Selection (Reference Value):

2.5mm electrode: 60-90A

3.2mm electrode: 80-120A

4.0mm electrode: 120-160A
For vertical down welding, reduce the current by 10%-15% to prevent molten iron sagging.

Operation Key Points: Maintain short-arc welding (arc length ≈ 1/2 of the electrode diameter) and avoid excessive electrode oscillation. For multi-layer welding, completely clean the slag of each layer to prevent slag inclusion defects.

3. Safety Protection

Must wear a full set of protective equipment: welding helmet with shade number 10-12, flame-retardant protective clothing, insulated gloves, and impact-resistant welding shoes.

The welding area must be well-ventilated. Turn on exhaust fans for indoor operations; use a mobile welding fume purifier in enclosed spaces.

Keep at least 10 meters away from flammable materials and prepare a dry powder fire extinguisher. When working in humid environments, place an insulating rubber mat under your feet and prohibit operating the welding torch with wet hands.

II. Storage Specifications: Preventing Moisture Absorption and Deterioration

1. Storage Environment

The warehouse must be well-ventilated and dry, with a temperature not lower than 5℃ and relative humidity ≤ 60%. It is recommended to install a thermohygrometer for real-time monitoring; turn on a dehumidifier promptly if humidity exceeds the standard.

Electrodes should be stored on shelves at least 30cm away from the ground and walls to avoid moisture from the ground and condensed water on walls. Do not store them with corrosive substances such as acids, alkalis, or salts.

2. Stacking and Management

Electrodes of different models, diameters, and batches must be stacked separately. The height of each stack should not exceed 1.5 meters, and a channel of at least 50cm should be reserved between stacks.

Implement the first-in, first-out (FIFO) principle. The recommended storage period for electrodes is 6 months; for those exceeding the period, focus on checking the coating condition.

Clear Labeling: Each stack of electrodes should be labeled with model, diameter, production batch, and warehousing date to avoid misuse.

3. Methods to Judge Deterioration

Tap Test: Roll multiple electrodes against each other. A clear and crisp sound indicates dry and qualified electrodes; a dull and sandy sound means they are dampened.

Visual Inspection: The coating should be smooth without whitening or caking, and the electrode core should be free of rust. When bent to 120°, a slight crisp sound from the coating is normal; large pieces falling off indicates deterioration.

Welding Inspection: If the coating falls off in chunks or a large amount of moisture vapor is generated during welding, the electrodes are dampened and deteriorated.
