Product Introduction

ERNiMo-10 Nickel-Molybdenum Alloy Welding Wire

ERNiMo-10 is a nickel-molybdenum solid welding wire conforming to AWS A5.14. Designed as the matching filler metal for Hastelloy B-3 (UNS N10675) and compatible B-series nickel alloys, ERNiMo-10 delivers weld deposits with outstanding resistance to hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, and other reducing chemical environments across a wide temperature range.

With a nominal composition of Ni-28.5Mo-1.5Cr-3Fe and controlled low carbon content (≤0.01%), ERNiMo-10 provides superior thermal stability compared to earlier-generation Ni-Mo fillers (ERNiMo-7 / B-2 type). The improved chemistry minimizes the formation of detrimental Ni₄Mo intermetallic phase during welding and service, resulting in significantly enhanced resistance to intergranular corrosion and knife-line attack in the heat-affected zone.

Key Features of ERNiMo-10 Wire

  • Exceptional HCl Resistance: Capable of withstanding various concentrations of hydrochloric acid, up to its boiling point.
  • Expertise in Reducing Acid Environments: Demonstrates outstanding corrosion resistance in H₂SO₄, HCl, H₃PO₄, and acetic acid media.
  • Thermal Stability: Compared to ERNiMo-7 (Type B-2) welding consumables, it exhibits enhanced resistance to Ni₄Mo ordering, thereby reducing the risk of embrittlement.
  • Low Carbon Deposition: With a carbon content of ≤0.01%, it minimizes carbide precipitation and susceptibility to intergranular corrosion.
  • TIG and MIG Compatibility: Suitable for use with both GTAW (TIG) and GMAW (MIG) welding processes.
  • Precise Iron Content Control: A moderate iron content maintains excellent corrosion resistance while significantly enhancing welding process performance.

Storage and Handling

•Store ERNiMo-10 in original factory-sealed packaging (RH < 50%, 15–30°C)

•Prevent all contact with carbon steel - use stainless steel or nickel-alloy racks, clamps, and tools

•Opened TIG rod tubes must be resealed; exposed rods should be cleaned with acetone before use

•For MIG spools, use dedicated liners and contact tips that have never been used with carbon or stainless steel wire

•If moisture pickup is suspected, TIG rods may be conditioned at 100–150°C for 1 hour

FAQ

Q: What are the primary applications for ERNiMo-10 welding wire?

A: ERNiMo-10 is the preferred filler metal for welding Hastelloy B-3 (UNS N10675) alloy and other compatible nickel-molybdenum (Ni-Mo) alloys. It is specifically designed for the fabrication of equipment used to handle hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, and other reducing chemical media-environments in which austenitic stainless steels and conventional nickel alloys often fail due to corrosion.

Q: Can ERNiMo-10 be used as a substitute for ERNiMo-7 (the B-2 filler metal)?

A: Yes. For the fabrication of new equipment, ERNiMo-10 is the recommended upgrade material to replace ERNiMo-7. It not only offers hydrochloric acid resistance equivalent to that of ERNiMo-7 but also demonstrates significant improvements in thermal stability and corrosion resistance within the Heat-Affected Zone (HAZ). ERNiMo-10 weld metal exhibits excellent compatibility with both B-2 and B-3 base metals.

Q: What shielding gas is required when welding with ERNiMo-10?

A: For all welding processes, pure argon (purity ≥99.99%) must be used as the shielding gas. When welding thicker workpieces, an argon-helium mixture (containing up to 75% argon and 25% helium) may be selected to improve weld pool fluidity and increase weld penetration depth. The use of active gases-such as carbon dioxide (CO₂) or nitrogen (N₂)-is strictly prohibited.

Q: Why must the interpass temperature be limited to below 100°C during welding?

A: Compared to stainless steels, nickel-molybdenum alloys are more sensitive to thermal cycling (i.e., the heating and cooling processes). If the interpass temperature exceeds 100°C, it accelerates the ordering transformation of Ni₄Mo intermetallic compounds within the alloy structure and may lead to the formation of grain boundary precipitates; this, in turn, severely compromises the alloy's toughness and corrosion resistance.

Q: Can ERNiMo-10 be used in oxidizing media environments?

A: No. The chromium (Cr) content of ERNiMo-10 is merely 1% to 3%; consequently, it possesses virtually no resistance to oxidizing acids or chloride pitting corrosion. For applications involving oxidizing media-or mixed media environments containing both acids and chlorides-ERNiCrMo-3 (Alloy 625 type) or ERNiCrMo-4 (C-276 type) welding consumables should be used instead.
