E7024 FAQ
Product Characteristics & Applications
Q: What are the main features of E7024?
A: E7024 is a carbon steel welding electrode with high deposition rate, designed with a titanium-iron powder coating. It is suitable for flat welding (PA) and horizontal fillet welding (PB). Its deposition efficiency can reach 150%, and the tensile strength of the deposited metal is ≥70,000 psi (approximately 480 MPa). It features low spatter, stable arc, and self-peeling slag.
Advantages: It has good deep penetration and is suitable for welding rusted or contaminated surfaces; it can be used for repairing heavy equipment, truck bodies, ships, etc.
Q: What materials and scenarios is it suitable for?
A: It is mainly used for welding low-carbon steel and structural steel (such as Grade A, B, D shipbuilding steel), boiler steel, etc. Typical applications include building structures, mechanical bases, storage tank manufacturing, and ship maintenance.
2. Welding Parameters & Operation
Q: How to select the appropriate welding current?
A: The current range depends on the electrode diameter:
3/32 inch (2.4mm): 70-170A (AC/DC)
5/32 inch (4.0mm): 180-240A (AC/DC)
3/16 inch (4.8mm): 220-280A (DC) or 240-300A (AC)
Tip: Adopt the drag technique and maintain a short arc length to reduce porosity.
Q: Is preheating or post-heating required before welding?
A: Generally, preheating is not required. However, for thick plates or high-constraint structures, it is recommended to preheat to 60-100°C to reduce the risk of cracking. No special post-weld heat treatment is needed.
3. Common Issues & Solutions
Q: What to do if porosity or lack of fusion occurs during welding?
A:Porosity: Check the shielding gas flow rate (if gas shielding is used) and the cleanliness of the workpiece surface (oil, rust must be removed); avoid direct wind blowing on the welding area.
Lack of fusion: Increase the current or reduce the welding speed to ensure sufficient heat input; adjust the electrode angle (30°-45° with the weld).
Q: How to handle moisture-absorbed electrodes?
A: If the electrode absorbs moisture, dry it at 70-100°C for 30-60 minutes, or bake it at 250-300°C for 1 hour to restore its performance.
4. Comparison with Other Electrodes
Q: What is the difference between E7024 and E7018?
A:E7024: Only suitable for flat welding and horizontal welding; high deposition rate; lower toughness of deposited metal (no impact toughness requirement).
E7018: Suitable for all-position welding; low-hydrogen coating; good toughness of deposited metal; applicable to low-temperature environments or high-demand structures.
