Products Description
Ocean Welding E71T-1C is a titanium (rutile) flux-cored welding wire for carbon steel that conforms to AWS A5.20/A5.20M standards. This welding wire is designed for use with 100% CO₂ shielding gas and is suitable for all-position and multi-pass welding. It is specifically optimized for 490 MPa grade low carbon steel and low alloy structural steel-materials widely used in shipyards, steel structure manufacturers, bridge builders, and heavy equipment original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
Key advantages typically cited by welders and quality control (QC) engineers include:
1. Rapid arc response with minimal spatter and easy slag removal; in most manufacturing facilities, it is more productive than shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) or solid wire welding.
2. Supports welding in all positions, including flat welding, horizontal welding, vertical upward welding, vertical downward welding, and overhead welding.
3. Maintains stable Charpy V-notch impact toughness (≥ 27 J) at -20°C, meeting the acceptance requirements of AWS A5.20 for 490 MPa structural welds.
4. When a suitable Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) is adopted, the X-ray inspection level II quality standard can be achieved; this quality level is often specified by the pressure vessel and shipbuilding industries.

Applications by Industry

Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering
Applications include hull sections, decks, bulkheads, superstructures, container ship cell guides, oil tanker inner bottoms, barges, and port cranes. Common base materials include shipbuilding steels of grades A, B, and D; AH32/AH36; DH32/DH36; and SS400. E71T-1C is an FCAW-G (gas-shielded flux-cored wire) product widely used by shipyards in Asia.

Structural Steel Fabrication
Applications include H-beams, box columns, trusses, industrial plants, sports venues, and high-rise steel structural frames. Commonly used base materials include Q235B, Q355, ASTM A36, A572 Gr.50, and EN S355. It conforms to the AWS D1.1 prequalified welding procedure specification (WPS) for A36/A500/A516/A572/A709 steel.

Bridge Welding
It is suitable for box girders, bridge decks, truss joints, and pedestrian bridges. Commonly used base materials include Q355qD/E, ASTM A709 Gr.50, and S355J2+N. For critical seismic connections, our H4 grade welding materials meet the requirements of AWS D1.8 Seismic Supplement Specification-the 2025 revision of AWS D1.1 standard explicitly stipulates that welding materials with H4 diffusible hydrogen content must be used for A913 steel.
Recommended Welding Process
| Step | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Joint preparation | Remove rust, mill scale, oil, moisture and paint within 25 mm of the joint edge |
| Shielding gas | 100% CO₂, purity ≥ 99.8%, flow 20 – 25 L/min, wind speed < 2 m/s (use windbreak outdoors) |
| Polarity | DCEP (electrode positive) |
| CTWD (stick-out) | 1.2 mm: 15 – 20 mm; 1.6 mm: 20 – 25 mm |
| Interpass temperature | ≤ 150 °C (raise to 200 °C for thick, high-restraint joints) |
| Max single-pass fillet leg | 7 – 8 mm - beyond this, use multi-pass to control weld metal metallurgy |
| Vertical-down welding | Recommended only for plates ≤ 6 mm to avoid lack of fusion |
| Reconditioning | Store in a dry room (RH < 60%); if wire is exposed > 8 h in humid conditions, re-bake spool at 100 – 150 °C for 1 h before use |
FAQ
Q: How do I minimize spatter?
A: Keep voltage in the 24 – 28 V range for 1.2 mm wire, use a proper CTWD (15 – 25 mm), select a welder with adjustable inductance, and use DCEP. Spatter caused by CO₂ boil-off and metallurgical reactions is inherent to E71T-1C; if visible weld appearance is critical, consider switching to E71T-1M.
Q: How do I prevent porosity?
A: Clean the joint of oil, rust and moisture within 25 mm of both edges; use gas flow 20 – 25 L/min with proper windbreak; store wire in a dry room (RH < 60%); if wire has been exposed to humid conditions for extended periods, re-bake at 100 – 150 °C × 1 h.
Q: Can I use E71T-1C for vertical-up and overhead welding?
A: Yes , it is an all-position wire. For 1.2 mm at vertical-up, use 120 – 260 A with a small weave motion. For plates thinner than 6 mm, vertical-down welding is also allowed.
Q: How should I store the spools?
A: Keep in a dry warehouse, RH < 60%, off the floor and walls, away from acids / alkalis / oils. Unopened vacuum-packed spools: use within 12 months; non-vacuum: within 6 months.
Q: Do you offer OEM / ODM?
A: Yes. Neutral packaging, customised carton print, brand logo and multilingual labels are all supported.
