6. Correct Storage Methods
6.1 Storage Environment Requirements
Temperature and Humidity Control: Store in a dry, well-ventilated indoor warehouse. Maintain the ambient temperature at 5℃ - 30℃ and relative humidity ≤60% to prevent the electrode coating from absorbing moisture, which may affect welding quality.
Keep Away from Corrosive Substances: Do not store together with corrosive chemicals (such as acids, alkalis, salts) or oil-gas substances. This prevents corrosion of the electrode's metal core or coating and avoids performance damage.
Stacking Standards: Use pallets or shelves for layered storage. Avoid direct contact with the ground (it is recommended to elevate by more than 10cm). The stacking height should not exceed 1.5 meters to prevent damage to the bottom packaging due to pressure and facilitate ventilation and moisture prevention.
6.2 Storage After Unsealing
Seal Unused Electrodes Promptly: For unpacked plastic-boxed electrodes, if not fully used at one time, immediately close the box lid or put them into a sealed moisture-proof bag to isolate external moisture. Keep the outer packaging of unopened cartons intact to avoid damage and moisture intrusion.
Storage Period: Under the above storage conditions, the shelf life of unopened electrodes is 12 months. For unpacked electrodes, if properly sealed, it is recommended to use them within 3 months. Beyond this period, re-drying and testing are required, and they can only be used if qualified.
7. Standard Usage Guidelines
7.1 Preparation Before Welding
Electrode Drying Treatment: Dry the electrodes at 250℃ - 300℃ for 1 - 2 hours before use to remove moisture adsorbed in the coating, preventing defects such as pores and slag inclusion during welding. After drying, place the electrodes in an insulation drum at 80℃ - 100℃ and take them as needed to avoid reabsorbing moisture.
Workpiece Cleaning: Thoroughly clean oil stains, rust, oxide scales, and dust from the welding area of the workpiece before welding. Use sandpaper for grinding or acetone for wiping to ensure the joint is clean and reduce the impact of impurities on weld quality.
Equipment Inspection: Confirm that the welding power supply has stable output, the ground wire is firmly connected, and the welding tongs have good insulation performance. Avoid current fluctuations caused by equipment failures, which may affect weld formation.
7.2 Welding Process Operation
Current and Arc Control: Strictly match the electrode specification and welding position according to the "Recommended Welding Current". Maintain short-arc welding during flat welding (the arc length is approximately 0.5 - 1 times the electrode diameter). For vertical welding and overhead welding, the arc can be slightly shorter to prevent molten droplets from falling and reduce spatter.
Welding Speed: Maintain a uniform welding speed, generally controlled at 50mm/min - 100mm/min (adjust according to electrode specification). Excessively fast speed may lead to incomplete penetration, while excessively slow speed may cause excessive weld reinforcement and coarse grains, affecting mechanical properties.
Interlayer Cleaning: During multi-pass welding, use a slag hammer to remove slag and spatter from the weld surface after each pass. Check for no defects before proceeding to the next pass to avoid slag inclusion affecting interlayer bonding strength.
7.3 Post-Welding Treatment
After the weld cools down, pickling and passivation treatment can be carried out as needed to further improve the corrosion resistance of the weld. If the welded structure needs to bear pressure, hydrostatic or pneumatic tests should be conducted to check the tightness of the joint.
