Element Content Range Main Function
Carbon (C) ≤0.12% Low carbon reduces the hardening tendency of the weld and lowers the risk of hydrogen-induced cracking; excessive carbon will increase weld brittleness.
Manganese (Mn) 1.00~1.60% Key strengthening element: Improves weld strength and toughness; also acts as a deoxidizer to reduce oxygen content in the weld and enhance weld purity.
Silicon (Si) 0.20~0.55% Auxiliary deoxidizer: Combines with oxygen to form SiO₂ slag, reducing oxygen in the weld; also slightly increases weld strength, but excessive content leads to weld brittleness.
Phosphorus (P) ≤0.035% Harmful impurity: Tends to segregate at grain boundaries, causing weld hot cracking (solidification cracking), so its content must be strictly controlled.
Sulfur (S) ≤0.035% Harmful impurity: Combines with manganese to form MnS, increasing weld hot brittleness, so its content must also be strictly limited.
Nickel (Ni) 0~0.50% (for some grades) Optional additive: Improves the low-temperature toughness of the weld (e.g., E7018-A1/A2 grades, designed for low-temperature working conditions).
Chromium (Cr)/Molybdenum (Mo) 0~0.30% (for some grades) Optional additives: Molybdenum enhances the high-temperature strength and creep resistance of the weld (e.g., E7018-Mo grade, used in medium-temperature environments).
Iron (Fe) Balance The base metal of the core wire.
