Products Description
ERNiCrMo-3 is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum (Ni-Cr-Mo) alloy welding material conforming to the American Welding Society (AWS) A5.14 standard, typically supplied as filler wire.
It is also widely known as Inconel 625 welding material because its deposited metal composition is similar to the well-known INCONEL 625 (UNS N06625) alloy. This material has crucial applications in many industrial sectors due to its excellent corrosion resistance, superior high-temperature strength, and good weldability.
Chemical Composition
ERNiCrMo-3 is an alloy with nickel (Ni) as the base metal and added elements such as chromium (Cr), molybdenum (Mo), and niobium (Nb). Specific compositions vary slightly across different sources, but the range of core elements remains consistent.
The table below summarizes typical chemical composition:
| Element | Composition (%) |
|---|---|
| Nickel (Ni) | 58.0 min |
| Chromium (Cr) | 20.0 - 23.0 |
| Molybdenum (Mo) | 8.0 - 10.0 |
| Niobium (Nb) | 3.15 - 4.15 |
| Iron (Fe) | 5.0 max |
| Manganese (Mn) | 0.50 max |
| Silicon (Si) | 0.50 max |
| Carbon (C) | 0.10 max |
| Phosphorus (P) | 0.015 max |
| Sulfur (S) | 0.015 max |
| Aluminum (Al) | 0.40 max |
| Titanium (Ti) | 0.40 max |
| Cobalt (Co) | 1.0 max |
| Copper (Cu) | 0.50 max |
Physical and Mechanical Properties
- Physical Properties: Density is approximately 8.4 g/cm³, melting point range is 1290-1350°C.
- Mechanical Properties: The weld metal typically exhibits high strength and good ductility. Tensile strength is generally not less than 760 MPa, and elongation is not less than 30%. A 2024 study calculated the grain boundary strengthening contribution of different welding wires using the Hall-Petch formula, with values ranging from 316.62 to 356.96 MPa.
- Corrosion Resistance and High Temperature Resistance: This alloy exhibits excellent corrosion resistance in both oxidizing and reducing environments, especially resisting pitting corrosion, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking, making it suitable for harsh environments containing chlorides. Its high-temperature performance is stable, with a wide applicable temperature range, from low-temperature environments to high temperatures of approximately 540°C to 1000°F (approximately 538°C).
Main Application Areas
ERNiCrMo-3 welding wire has a wide range of applications, mainly including:
- Welding of specific alloys: Specifically designed for welding nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloys such as INCONEL 625, INCONEL 825, INCOLOY 825, and Alloy 20.
- Welding of dissimilar materials: Suitable for welding dissimilar materials such as nickel-based alloys with stainless steel, and ultra-high-strength steel with nickel alloys.
- Covering (cladding): Used for overlaying a corrosion-resistant nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy metal onto steel surfaces.
- Industry applications: Widely used in petrochemical, marine engineering, aerospace, nuclear power, electric power (such as pipeline systems and reactor components), pollution control, and heavy machinery manufacturing.
Product Forms and Standards
Product Forms: Solid round welding wire available for various welding processes including MIG/GMAW (Gas Shielded Metal Arc Welding), TIG/GTAW (Tungsten Inert Gas Welding), and SAW (Submerged Arc Welding). Common diameters include 0.8, 1.0, 1.2, 1.6, 2.4, and 3.2 mm. Some suppliers also offer ultra-fine diameters such as 0.025 mm for special applications.
Standards: Primarily conforms to AWS A5.14 standards.
