Recently, we focused on 7018 welding rods and explored equivalent welding wires. 7018 welding rods are widely used in the industry and are known for their high strength and good toughness. They are suitable for welding a variety of steels.
After investigation and research, ER70-S6 welding wire is one of the options with equivalent performance to 7018 welding rods. It is a solid welding wire with a reasonable alloy composition ratio, which can produce welds with a tensile strength of about 70,000 psi, which is close to the performance of 7018. In automotive manufacturing, when welding high-strength steel parts of the frame, ER70-S6 can replace 7018, which can provide excellent weld appearance and good mechanical properties to ensure the structural integrity of the welded parts. In the field of heavy equipment maintenance and manufacturing, the ESAB 710X and 7100 Ultra welding wires have comparable performance to the 7018 electrode. When using 0.045-inch and 1/16-inch specifications, the ESAB 710X performs well in various welding positions when used with 100% CO₂, and can achieve high-speed jet transfer and fast deposition. When repairing mining bucket bodies, thick-walled steel parts and additional protection and wear plates can be effectively connected. ESAB 7100 Ultra with CO₂ gas is effective in heavy equipment repair. The tensile strength and yield strength are similar to 7018. The only significant difference is the Charpy V-notch value. However, overall, these two welding wires are excellent alternatives to 7018 electrodes in applications where high-strength welds are required for heavy machinery.
When selecting a welding wire equivalent to 7018, factors such as base material type, welding process, required mechanical properties of the weld and cost-effectiveness need to be considered comprehensively. Each alternative welding wire has unique characteristics. The correct selection can significantly improve the quality and efficiency of welding projects and promote technological progress and development in the welding industry.
