In the era of rapid development of industrial manufacturing, aluminum has been widely used in many fields such as aerospace, automobile manufacturing, and construction due to its advantages of light weight, high strength, and corrosion resistance. As an indispensable connection process in aluminum processing, welding plays a key role in different types of weldable aluminum substrates.
1. Types of deformed aluminum alloys
1 Series pure aluminum: 1 Series aluminum alloys are mainly pure aluminum, and the aluminum content is usually above 99%. Its advantages are good electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity, and corrosion resistance, excellent welding performance, and it is not easy to produce defects such as cracks during welding. It is often used in fields that do not require high strength but have high requirements for electrical conductivity and corrosion resistance, such as heat dissipation components of electronic equipment, chemical pipelines, etc. However, due to its low strength, it is not suitable for structural parts that bear large loads.
3 Series aluminum-manganese alloy: 3 Series aluminum alloys are mainly composed of aluminum-manganese alloys, with a small amount of magnesium added. The addition of manganese improves the strength and hardness of the alloy while maintaining good welding performance. After welding, the strength and corrosion resistance of the weld of this alloy can meet general industrial needs. In the construction industry, it is often used to make curtain walls, roofs, etc.; in automobile manufacturing, it can be used for body coverings and other parts.
5 series aluminum-magnesium alloy: 5 series aluminum alloy is based on aluminum-magnesium alloy, and the magnesium content is usually around 2%-5%. The alloy has high strength and good plasticity, and its welding performance is also excellent. During welding, by reasonably selecting welding process and welding materials, a welded joint with high strength and good corrosion resistance can be obtained. It is widely used in aircraft structural parts in the aerospace field, body frames in automobile manufacturing, and hull structures in shipbuilding, etc. In these fields, the strength and corrosion resistance of materials are required to be very high.
2. Casting aluminum alloy category
2 series aluminum-copper alloy: 2 series cast aluminum alloy is mainly aluminum-copper alloy, and the copper content is generally around 4%-10%. The alloy has high strength and hardness, good casting performance, but relatively poor welding performance. During the welding process, hot cracks are prone to occur, and special welding processes and welding materials are required to ensure welding quality. It is mainly used for castings with high strength requirements and complex shapes, such as engine blocks and some parts of aircraft engines.
7 series aluminum-zinc-magnesium alloy: 7 series cast aluminum alloy is based on aluminum-zinc-magnesium alloy, with a small amount of copper and other elements added. It has high strength and hardness and is the strongest type of cast aluminum alloy. However, its welding performance also has certain challenges, and welding parameters and processes need to be strictly controlled during welding. It is often used to manufacture large castings that bear high loads, such as some key structural parts in the aerospace field, large wheels for automobiles, etc.
With the continuous advancement of industrial technology, the performance requirements for weldable aluminum substrates are also increasing. Scientific researchers and enterprises continue to invest in research and development, and are committed to developing new aluminum substrates with better performance and better welding performance to meet the growing needs of different industries. I believe that in the future, the categories of weldable aluminum substrates will be richer and the performance will be more outstanding, providing stronger support for the high-quality development of various industries.
