What Is The Difference Between ER308L And 308L?

1. Different Product Types

  • ER308L is stainless steel TIG welding wire, belonging to the gas-shielded welding wire category.

ER308

  • 308L usually refers to stainless steel welding electrodes (such as E308L-16), belonging to manual arc welding electrodes.

2. Differences in Application Characteristics

ER308L welding wire has ultra-low carbon content, excellent welding processability, stable arc, no spatter, and beautiful weld formation. It is suitable for all-position welding and has good crack resistance. It is mainly used for welding 304L and 308L stainless steel materials, and common applications include petrochemicals, pressure vessels, food and medical equipment, engineering machinery, and nuclear power.

308L welding electrodes also have ultra-low carbon characteristics, can be used with both AC and DC, are suitable for all-position welding, have excellent welding process performance, beautiful weld formation, and good resistance to metallographic corrosion. They are mainly used for welding 304 and 308 stainless steel, and are suitable for welding CR90 and C28N11Ti stainless steel structures.

3. Different Usage Requirements
When using ER308L, pure argon gas protection is required, the current should be between 100-200A, the wire extension length should be 3-5mm, and it is recommended to provide argon gas protection on the back of the welding area.

When using 308L welding electrodes, preheating at 320-350 degrees Celsius for one hour is required. It is recommended to use a DC power supply, control the current and heat input, and keep the preheating and intermittent temperature below 150 degrees Celsius.
