Surface cleaning: Before welding, corrosion, dirt, grease, paint and other impurities on the surface of cast iron must be thoroughly removed. This step is critical because any residual impurities may cause welding defects. Surface treatment is usually performed by mechanical grinding, chemical cleaning or sandblasting.
Preheating treatment (optional but recommended): Preheating is an important part of welding cast iron. Heating cast iron to 500-1200°F (about 260-650°C) can effectively reduce thermal shock during welding and reduce the risk of cracks. If conditions do not allow preheating, the cast iron surface should also be kept warm to avoid cold welding.

  • Welding process: Choosing the right nickel electrode is the key to successful welding.   • Cooling and post-treatment: After welding, the cast iron should be allowed to cool slowly to avoid cracks. This can be achieved by covering the surface of the cast iron with insulation or burying it in dry sand. In some cases, post-heat treatment is also required, such as stress relief at 1150°F and then cooling in the furnace to at least 700°F.
