SJ601 cannot be selected correctly without considering the welding wire. In submerged arc welding, the wire and flux operate as a combined consumable system.
Begin With the Base Material
Identify the exact base-metal grade rather than describing it only as "carbon steel" or "low-alloy steel." Different grades require different weld-metal strength, toughness, alloy content and heat-treatment performance.
Define the Required Properties
The project specification should identify:
- Minimum tensile strength
- Minimum yield strength
- Required elongation
- Impact temperature and energy
- Hardness restrictions
- Diffusible-hydrogen requirements
- Post-weld heat-treatment condition
- Nondestructive-testing criteria
A wire should not be recommended until these requirements are known.
Review the Welding Setup
The selected combination must also work with:
- Single-wire, tandem or multi-wire operation
- AC or DC power
- Specified polarity
- Wire diameter
- Plate thickness
- Welding speed
- Current and voltage
- Heat-input restrictions
- Groove geometry
- Preheat and interpass temperatures
Qualify the Combination
A candidate wire-SJ601 combination should be tested under production-representative conditions. Welding procedure qualification confirms whether the resulting weld meets the specified mechanical and inspection requirements.
What Should Buyers Send Suppliers?
A complete inquiry should include the steel grade, wire classification, plate thickness, joint design, electrical setup, required mechanical properties, impact temperature, heat treatment, order quantity and destination.
This enables Dayang Welding to discuss a more appropriate SJ601 supply solution.
