Does Welding Wire Have A Shelf Life

Does the welding wire have a shelf life?

Low-hydrogen welding consumables are two years old.

Graphite welding materials and other welding materials are one year.

Welding rods, fluxes and flux-cored welding wires whose inventory period exceeds the prescribed period shall be re-inspected by relevant functional departments before being released for use. In principle, the re-inspection mainly focuses on evaluating whether the welding material has defects that may affect the welding quality, and is generally limited to appearance and process performance tests. However, when there is doubt about the performance of the welding material, necessary inspection items can be added.

The prescribed period can be determined according to the following methods from the production date:

a) The recommended period of welding material quality certificate or manual;

b) Acid welding materials and low-hydrogen welding materials with good moisture-proof packaging are two years;

c) One year for graphite welding materials and other welding materials.

This is a requirement in JB/T 3223-1996 "Welding Material Quality Management Regulations".

The shelf life of stainless steel electrodes

The shelf life of stainless steel welding rod is two years, and it should not be damp.

Stainless steel electrodes can be divided into chromium stainless steel electrodes and chromium nickel stainless steel electrodes. Of these two types of electrodes, those that meet the national standard are assessed in accordance with the national standard GB/T983-1995. Chromium stainless steel has certain corrosion resistance (oxidizing acid, organic acid, cavitation) heat and corrosion resistance. Usually selected as equipment materials for power stations, chemicals, petroleum and other equipment. However, the weldability of chromium stainless steel is generally poor. Attention should be paid to the welding process, heat treatment conditions and the selection of suitable welding rods. Chromium-nickel stainless steel electrodes have good corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance, and are widely used in chemical, fertilizer, petroleum, and medical machinery manufacturing. In order to prevent intergranular corrosion due to heating, the welding current should not be too large, which is about 20% less than that of carbon steel electrodes, the arc should not be too long, and the interlayer cooling should be fast, and a narrow weld bead is better.

Does Lincoln wire have a shelf life?

If it is a solid wire, it seems that there is no such thing as a shelf life.

If the solid welding wire is kept properly, it should not be damp and rusty, and its performance will not be affected if it is placed for one or two years;

For flux-cored welding wire, it is also necessary to pay attention to moisture and rust prevention. For a long time of storage, but there is no rust on the appearance, the welding wire that does not leak the agent can generally be used normally. If you are not assured, you can use these welding wires to do a test. Check the weld performance test.
