Another Port Levied A Container Overdue Storage Fee!

It is reported that Seattle Wharf announced that it will levy an Extended Dwell Time Fee (Extended Dwell Time Fee) on its containers on Piers 5, 18 and 30. The fee will take effect from December 1st this year and is applicable to imported containers staying at the terminal for more than 5 natural days.

Starting from December 1, Seattle Terminals will impose this overdue storage fee on all imported containers unloaded at Piers 5, 18 and 30. At the same time, normal port demurrage will also be charged as usual.

Seattle Terminals stated that, like other ports in the western United States that have or will impose this additional fee, importers’ failure to pick up containers in time has caused serious terminal congestion, making terminal operators unable to provide good services to ships going to their terminals.

The terminal also expressed the hope that charging overdue storage fees would encourage shippers to pick up the goods as soon as possible. Once the work of handling the detention of the container is completed, the overdue storage fee will cease to be levied.

The new overdue storage fee will apply to all imported containers loaded with cargo, and the charging method is as follows:

Free time (free time) no charge (up to 5 days after the container can be delivered);

The container stays at the terminal for 6-10 days, and the charge is USD 50 per container per day;

The container stays at the terminal for 11-15 days, and the daily charge is USD 75 per container;

The container stays at the terminal for 16-20 days, and the daily charge is US$100/container;

The container stays at the terminal for more than 21 days, 150 USD/container per day.

Hapag-Lloyd’s announcement stated: “The importer recorded in the shipping documents will need to pay or arrange payment of overdue storage fees by check, money order, wire transfer or any other method, and in accordance with the instructions provided by the operator through the Forecast website. Once paid The container will be displayed as available in the operator’s container tracking system if the fee is exceeded. No appointment can be made on the import channel until the fee is paid and the container is displayed as available on the Forecast website."
