Storage Of Welding Materials

(I) Welding rod

    1.Precautions

    (1) Welding electrodes should be stored in a warehouse that is ventilated and dry. The relative humidity of the air should be controlled below 60%. Keep 30cm away from the ground and the wall when stacking.

    (2) Store the model and specifications clearly and do not mix them.

    (3) Be careful not to damage the coating during the handling and stacking. Pay attention to the electrodes with poor strength: such as stainless steel electrodes, surfacing electrodes, cast iron electrodes. Welding bar code should not be too high.

    2. The influence of the electrode on moisture

After the electrode is wet, the general coating color is dark, and the electrode loses the crisp metal sound when the electrode is collided, and some even return to alkali to appear "white flowers".

Influence of Wet Electrode on Welding Process:

⑴The arc is unstable, the spatter is increased, and the particles are too large.

⑵ Melting deep, easy to undercut.

    (3) The slag coverage is not good, and the welding wave is rough.

⑷It is difficult to remove the residue.

Influence of Wet Electrode on Welding Quality:

It is easy to cause welding cracks and pores, especially for alkaline electrodes.

Each value of mechanical properties tends to be low.

    3. Welding rod drying

    (1) If the electrode is stored for too long when it is wet, but the welding core is not rusted, the coating is not deteriorated. After the electrode is dried, the original performance can be maintained without affecting the use.

    (2) The baking temperature should not be too high or too low. If the temperature is low, the moisture cannot be removed; if the temperature is too high, it may cause cracking, crispiness, peeling or change of the composition of the coating, which will affect the welding quality.

    (3) The exposed time of the alkaline electrode after drying should not exceed 4h.

    (4) The number of repeated drying times of the electrode should not be too much, otherwise the skin will easily fall off.

    4, electrode scrap

Corrosion of the welding core, adhesion, peeling, and severe moisture (especially low-hydrogen type electrodes, heat-resistant steel electrodes, and low-temperature steel electrodes). These types of electrodes can no longer be used and are discarded.

    (Two) welding wire

    1.Precautions

    (1) Welding wire should be kept in a special welding material warehouse, pay attention to the ventilation and dryness of the warehouse, the relative humidity of the air should be controlled below 60%, and keep a distance of 30cm from the ground and the wall during stacking.

    (2) Store the model and specifications clearly and do not mix them.

    (3) To avoid littering and to prevent packaging damage during handling. Once the package is damaged, it may cause the wire to absorb moisture and rust.

    (4) For barreled welding wire, do not roll it during transportation, and the container should not be tilted or tilted to prevent the welding wire from being entangled in the barrel and hinder its use.

    (5) Do not place the welding wire too high.

    (6) In general, the flux-cored wire does not need to be dried and should be used up as soon as possible after opening. When the welding wire is not used up and needs to be placed in the wire feeder overnight, cover the wire feeder (or wire reel) with canvas, plastic cloth or other items. To reduce contact with moisture in the air.

    (7) The CO2 used in the flux-cored wire should be pure anhydrous gas.

    2. The influence of welding wire on moisture

The moisture-absorbing welding wire can increase the diffusible hydrogen content in the deposited metal, and cause defects such as pits and pores. The welding process performance and the mechanical properties of the weld metal are deteriorated, which can seriously cause the weld to crack.

(III) Flux for submerged arc welding

    1. Flux is generally bagged and should be properly transported to prevent damage to the package;

    2. The flux should be stored in a dry room to prevent moisture from affecting the welding quality. The room temperature is 5-50 ° C, and it should not be placed in a high temperature and high humidity environment.

    3. Before use, the flux should be baked according to the parameters specified in the instructions. During baking, the flux is scattered in the pan, and the thickness does not exceed 50mm.
